Automatic Transmission a Boon to the Drivers

The Indian car industry is filled with creative ideas and technology. A car manufacturer develops a car keeping in mind the customers taste and needs. The features are and the design is created for easy drivability with maximum power and rich features. The latest trend now in the Indian car industry is the cars with automatic transmission. Though it is a very common feature abroad, in India it just started getting popular.

The demand for automatic cars started increasing recently and moving with the flow, many car manufacturers are focusing on these automatic features. It is women drivers who are greatly benefitted the feature and targeting the right audience, the car manufacturers are adding the automatic feature in the form of new variants or as new models. Car with automatic transmission are seeing impressive sales and the majority of customers are women. They feel it easy to drive and this is the very reason for automatic car sales go high. With the growing demand of such cars and targeting the women driver many car manufacturers are launching the automatic versions of their models.

In the year 2008, the Korean car manufacturer Hyundai had launched automatic Santro Automatic on Women’s Day but as a limited edition. The special edition Santro had made very impressive sales then. There are other models Hyundai's i20, Chevrolet Captiva (AT version), Fiat's Linea, Honda City, Mitsubishi Outlander, Mahindra Scorpio, Mitsubishi Outlander that also offer automatic transmission. Other than them there are luxury car manufacturers too and many more. Unlike before, the car manufacturers are offering five to six speed automatic transmission systems which result in better fuel-efficiency clubbed with improved pick up and performance.

Among the small cars Hyundai i10 offers the automatic transmission turning into a great success. The premium hatchback sells over 1,600 automatic transmission variants per month. This figure has crossed the expectations of the car manufacturer. The Korean car leader received an overwhelming response especially from woman drivers and the growing jamming in city is pushing up demand. Even Verna from the sedan segment comes with the automatic transmission. Hyundai is also planning to bring a variant exclusively for the physically challenged.
Mahindra & Mahindra, the Indian based car manufacturer, also launched the automatic version of Scorpio in 2008. Powerful 2.2 litre mHawk engine is mated with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and the. M&M’s flagship model Scorpio gets the credit of being the first Indian car brand and also the first SUV to be equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The number of automatic cars is increasing and every car manufacturer is trying to join the race. Honda, the Japanese car manufacturer already has variants with automatic transmissions like Civic, Accord, City, CR-V. As aforesaid it is one of the best features that a women driver looks for beside high-end features.

Another quick selling car with automatic transmission is Chevrolet Captiva. Normally Captiva has captured good sales in the Indian car market and now with the automatic versions the sales are gone still higher.
